Why does this matter? Who is paying attention? Should Christians care? The answer to these questions is unfortunately not being talked about in lieu of political unrest, racial tension, and a pandemic. The irony is that for believers, this is so much more important than anything else. The history of the Church is a history of oppression (1 Peter 4:12-14). It is also an inevitable promise of the future: “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10 ESV).
This does not mean that we are to be ignorant of the world around us. True Christianity means engaging the world around us and diligently preaching the gospel to every nation, despite political moorings. Christians in America need to wake up to the coming onslaught of religious freedom that is on the horizon. Persecution is coming and when it hits, most people will be completely unaware that is has been in the works for decades.
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen” (1 Peter 5:8-11 ESV).
President Barack Obama had the most antagonistic administration toward religion than any other Presidency in the history of the United States and it was never reported. This was only a couple of years ago. Christians had no idea at the length and depth his Justice Department went to suppress religious freedom. Do the research, read the material, and educate yourselves as to where American culture is heading concerning Christianity. You will be left in the dark, the government will attempt to silence you, and secular society will support this; it is a biblical certainty. Do not be naive about what you believe!
